Youth Formation

Catholic East Elementary School

The mission of Catholic East Elementary School, a richly diverse Catholic community, is to pursue academic excellence, nurture strong moral development and foster lifelong learning through living out the Gospel values. Catholic East is the parish school of Old Saint Mary, Our Lady of Divine Providence, Saints Peter and Paul, Three Holy Women, and the Cathedral of Saint John. The 2nd-8th grade campus is located at Saints Peter and Paul and the K3-1st grade campus is located at Three Holy Women-Holy Rosary. For more information call 414-964-1770 or visit www.catholiceast.org.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Kids from grade K4 through 2nd grade are invited to a special liturgy during our Sunday 9:00 am Mass in late September-May. Children attend Mass with their parents, but are called forward by the priest before the First Reading and dismissed to go downstairs with adult prayer leaders for a child-focused liturgy. Children hear the Scripture readings, discuss them in an interactive, child-friendly way, and pray together before rejoining their parents for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Adults who love God and love children are invited to become volunteer leaders for CLW, while middle schoolers can serve as lectors for our liturgy, and high schoolers volunteer as CLW assistants.

Religious Education

Our formation program welcomes children/youth in K4 – 10th grade to learn and experience God’s love for all of us though our Catholic Faith. Students will experience the life of the Church through the Sacraments, learn the Bible and God’s presence in the wonder of all his creation. Classes are held on Sunday morning from September through May at 10:15 to 11:15 am at Old St. Mary. Two Sundays a month we make sandwiches for the Guest House, a home for homeless men. The program is under the direction of Ken Gardinier, assisted by the many parishioners who are volunteer Catechists – teachers of the faith. Support, individual training, instruction guides, and classroom materials are provided for our Catechists.

For further information, to enroll your child, or to become a volunteer, contact Ken Gardinier, Director of Religious Education, at gardinierk@archmil.org or 414-271-6180.

Confirmation preparation for youth (those in high school) in our parish is through East Side Child and Youth Ministry (ESCYM).  For more information, contact Ralph Stewart at 414-962-3776 or escym@sbcglobal.net.

Special Events for Families

We host a variety of family-friendly events throughout the year, like our annual Epiphany Party and Pentecost Party, as well as many others. These are all great ways for families to build community and bring their faith to life.

Youth Service Corps

Youth Service Corps is a project of East Side Child and Youth Ministry dedicated to providing meaningful service and social opportunities for high school youth in the parish communities of Saints Peter and Paul, Three Holy Women, Our Lady of Divine Providence, Old St. Mary, and the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist. Each month we participate in a project in the Milwaukee area serving those frequently marginalized in our society – the hungry, the homeless, the elderly – as well as general projects that serve our parish communities. Following our service, we take some time to enjoy a social activity. YSC is open to all high school youth in the parishes. You can participate every month or just a few times a year, but we hope you will enjoy the experience enough that you will commit to regular service in our community. If you are an adult wishing to work with YSC please check out their Adult Volunteers page. For more information visit https://sites.google.com/site/ourysc/.
